Yea, I first saw Lazer Ramon or "Hard Gay" in February, early March on Baku Ten. It has to be one of teh funniest skits on Japanese TV today. The guy is from Osaka - my second hometown - by the way.

This hard gay character, ironically, makes fun of gay people. I find this quite disgusting. I saw one episode of a show where hard gay went up to pre-school children, and they all started crying because they were scared of him. Is this not sending a message to the young kids that all gay people are like hard gay? These kids will grow up being homophobic. I find it embarassing as a Japanese living outside of Japan, that Jap TV celebrities make fun of people to make money. This only gives Japan a bad image.

If people outside Japan could see the behavior of most other "Jap TV celebrities" as they yell
"Ehhhhhhhhh?" in unison at the most banal of things and "Oishi!" the rest of the time they would probably get a much worse image of Japan than what HG might giving them. Whatever his intentions, at least Hard Gay is shining a very publlic light on the subject of homosexuality, which is still a very taboo topic over here. Who knows, he might even inadvertantly spark a long overdo gay rights revolution in this country.

It's Foo-! not so much whoo-, but he's awesome, and a college grad. He began as Rasor Ramon (Ramon/Lamon due to the lack of sound differentiation in Japanese) character in WWF style entertainment and is now independantly successful with the Hrd Gay character, and very smart, though you might not catch that from only random clips.

"Hard Gay" is a sex idol type of character. Ever heard the saying that women often want what they can't have? Gay people is the pinnicle of that statement. So to the women he is their ultimate desire, and the men think he is a funny guy. Only open-minded people would understand the psychology behind this. I think he did this to woo someone he loved.

He is comedy - and doesnt go too far

i saw the episode with hard gay at the park, and i must say it didn't seem like the children were afraid of him. The majority of people seem to know who he is, and are really excited to see him in public. It's kinda like they WANT him to harass them, so they can say just that; "hey, i got harassed by hard gay the other day. it was kinda cool". Overall, i think he's a positive influence. First of all, he's taking a semi-hot button issue, and turning it around. He's taking a phrase like 'Hard Gay', and messing with the meaning, making it not such a big deal to say something like "I saw some Hard Gay action yesterday." second, he's taking a preconcieved notion and satirizing it. He's showing us just how stupid it is to view ALL gay people as leather-wearing, flamboiant freaks. If that's how gay people are, then why is this so shocking to us? He's showing us just how normal real gay people are; by satirizing the preconcieved notion. Lastly, if nothing else, he trying to break down restraining taboos. he may have thrusted in the children's direction a few times, but they certainly didn't care. as a comedian, he knows where the line is. That episode was more of a "kids say the darndest things" episode anyway (at least it think, i can't understand japanese but there was someone with limited translating ability watching with me, and they kept coming back to that one kid, and everybody seemed to love what he was saying). Barring the thrusting, he was exceedingly nice to the kids. The thrusting may have even been cool thing to them too, considering they've seen him on tv, and everything is funny to you that age. he was running around the playground with them, and he made them sushi with exactly what they wanted in it. And the parents were there the whole time. he was talking to them, really talking to them. How many people really talk to their kids, have an earnest conversation with them, because that's what they want the most. Throughout the whole segemtn, they were dictating what would happen, and he did it. overall, society has become so consumed with overprotection and shielding of our children, that they rarely get a real world experiance anymore. i think japan has an edge on america; they still take their kids to the park and let them play wiht whoever, it seemed. In america, that'd never happen in the suburbs. instead, we'd take them to soccer, or something of OUR choice, and limit who they came in contact with. all in all, i think hard gay is hilarious, and he's all in good fun. don't take things so seriously all the time, you'll live longer
