The Kodomo Biru Taste Test

2005-08-26 | by Jamie | Categories: Deep Thoughts

I just got back from a short vacation to Sapporo with Kate (more on that at a later time) where I bought a bottle of Kid's Beer I found at Don Quijote.

Follow up:

The bottle is indeed the same shape and weight of a normal beer bottle. The label is certainly more colorful than those on bottles of Asahi or Kirin, but the imagery is rather strange. As you can see it features a drawing of a boy, a girl, a dog, a geisha and some strange looking dude being consumed by a giant tsunami. Near the top is a circus elephant apparently melting into the word "Shitamachiya". Pretty creepy label for a kids drink if you ask me. Now let's see how it tastes...

Just as advertised the act of pouring the drink produced quite a big head of foam, much of which spilled onto my desk as I incompetently tried to pour and take photos at the same time.

I really shouldn't call the head "foam" but rather "suds" as it bore a striking resemblance to the kind of bubbles you get when you wash dishes with Palmolive.

Despite its soapy appearance I pressed on and gave it a good chug. So what did I think you ask...

Not bad! It actually tastes a lot like apple juice, and nothing like beer. If they did add any soap to the stuff you can't taste it. I think I actually like it better than apple juice and wouldn't mind having it again if given the chance. Yay, one more drink to add to the list of sissy drinks I love! Nothing like hangin' out with your friends, sippin' a few Kodomo Beers and smokin' a pack of Popeye cigarettes to pass the time.

Hey, I just heard about Don Quijote from friends in Chicago (that's after a whole year of going to Sapporo no less than once a month and never finding out about it). Now I can finally buy cigars in Japan!!

Hi I came here from Masamania and I really like your site. It's inspired me to avoid life as well. I'm actually thinking about doing the JET thing, except there's one problem. I hate kids. I HATE em! Little bastards... Um, anyways, Oh yea I just wanted to comment on your appearance. Has anyone ever told you you look EXACTLY like the actor James Spader. Here's a link for his picture. That's YOU dude!

Is this soda?

Luke: Don Quijote is the greatest Luke. Not only can you get cigars, strange toys and cheap food but they also sell extremely overpriced designer sweatshirts, trucker caps and of course Louis Vuitton bags.

Philip: James Spader? NEEEEEVER heard that one before. If you really hate kids, then my suggestion would be to become a dentist. Then you can poke at their gums with sharp metal objects.

Clay: I think any JET with a blog should be required to link to me as well as write weekly articles about how my site paved the way for them.

Shinobu: Not sure what it is really, but it tastes more like juice than soda.

Growing the beard back? Good Man. No wussy baby faces should be allowed on this site.
